Politique québécoise de gestion des matières résiduelles 2011-2015
To meet the goals of the Politique québécoise de gestion des matières résiduelles 2011-2015, measures of surveillance and control have been put in place.
For example, a black bin containing recyclable matters or material that should have been brought to the Dry Material and Hazardous Domestic Waste (HDW) Deposit may not be emptied, as well as a green bin containing refused material. If needed, a warning ticket will be hung up to the bin to invite you « to disinfect » your bin before this last one is emptied and to help you to improve your method of sorting household waste and recyclable matters.
Large and cumbersome items collection – Upon request only
April through November, collections of large and cumbersome items are organized once a month (second Tuesday). There will be no collection during winter.
To have large and cumbersome items picked up at your place, you must make a request by calling 819 324-5678, extension 4223, AT LEAST THE FRIDAY BEFORE THE COLLECTION. Items must be taken to the road the day preceding the collection. Items left by the road any other time will be considered as a nuisance liable to a report of breach and a fine.
ACCEPTED MATERIAL
- House and patio furniture (table, chair, chesterfield, desk, bed, mattress, etc.)
- Some household appliances (stove, dishwasher, washer, dryer, water heater)
REFUSED MATERIAL
Tires, household appliances containing hydrochlorofluorocarbon (refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner), computer, electric and electronic devices, garden residue and hazardous domestic wastes (HDW) and other various items WILL NOT BE PICKED UP.
However, you can bring them FREE OF CHARGE at the Dry Material Deposit.
Construction materials of all kind WILL NOT BE PICKED UP either. (See Dry Materials Deposit below).
Dry Material and Hazardous Domestic Waste (HDW) Deposit
The Dry Material Deposit located at 1710 Principale East (Rte 117) in Ste-Agathe (facing Mercedes car dealer/next to GMS Garage) is open to Val-David citizens. Proof of residence will be requested (tax bill, driving licence with a Val-David address, etc.). For opening hours, call 819 321-0798.
Depending on the quantity, SOME FEES are applicable for construction, renovation, demolition materials of all kind such as wood, stone, concrete, brick, ceramic, also for carpets, bath, shower, toilet and kitchen sink.
The Hazardous Domestic Waste Deposit is located on the same premises. You can bring in FREE OF CHARGE paint, primer, solvents, pesticides, household products, motor oil, aerosols, compact fluorescent light bulbs, neon, propane for barbecue, alkaline and rechargeable batteries, ink cartridges, fire extinguishers, etc.
Batteries can also be deposited in the cylinders provided for this purpose at the Town Hall, the Municipal Library, local schools and Dufresne Metro Market.
Electric and electronic devices, such as computers, screens, television, small household appliances, radios, etc. are accepted FREE OF CHARGE.
Garden residues such as leaves, branches and grass are accepted FREE OF CHARGE. But, to reduce its volume, think about doing herbicycling. By leaving the grass clippings on the ground you do not need to find another way to get rid of it and, furthermore, it is a natural fertilizer.
Dry garden residues, such as dry leaves, are also essential elements for a well-balanced compost. Wet garden residues, such as green grass, can be used together with the dried outs in your composter. If you are not composting, your friends or neighbours may be pleased to take it.
