Police
Sûreté du Québec
The Sûreté du Québec patrols and maintains public safety on the territory of the Municipality of the Village of Val-David. Police officers are responsible for issuing tickets for any infringements of municipal or town planning regulations.
School crossing guard
In Val-David, a school crossing guard is present during the school year at the intersection of de l’Église and de l’Académie streets, at times when schoolchildren are arriving or leaving, in the morning, at midday, and the afternoon. Although hired by the Municipality, the mandate and responsibilities of the crossing guard are under the jurisdiction of the Sûreté du Québec, which both sees to any training requirements and provides additional assistance if needed.
School corridor
The establishment of a school corridor is one of the projects Council is currently setting up and it should not be long before it becomes reality.
Parents whose children go to school on foot are invited, at the beginning of the school year, to decide upon the most appropriate and safest route to be taken and this should always be followed, both going to and coming from school. Children should also be taught to respect all road and traffic signs, to cross only at intersections, to take pedestrian crossings wherever they are available and to follow directions given by the school crossing guard.
Alarm systems
Any type of alarm system, panic button, or other device designed to warn of the presence of an intruder, a break-in or a fire, requires a permit.
Fines may apply in cases of false alarms.
Tickets or fines
Designated municipal officers may issue tickets or fines for infringements of municipal or town-planning regulations. Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec are also mandated to issue tickets in the name of the Municipality in addition to being responsible for the application of provincial traffic laws.
Non-payment of a fine may lead to prosecution.
Payment of a fine does not free an offender from the obligation of making any necessary corrections with respect to the regulation in question.
