The Town Planning department oversees the issue of permits and the application of Town Planning regulations.

A permit or certificate is required for all works, as follows:

• construction, renovation, repair and extension of buildings, demolition;
• sanitary installations and water catchment;
• construction or installation of retaining walls, embankments, fences and hedges;
• housing developments;
• installation of signs or advertising (permanent or temporary);
• installation of swimming pools;
• tree felling;
• domestic burn-off.

Other activities are subject to restrictions, prohibition and/or obligations:

• garage sales;
• snow removal;
• installation of tempos and snow fences;
• chimney cleaning;
• use of drinking water for watering grounds;
• use of fertilizer and pesticides;
• interference or other activity within the littoral zone (lakes and streams).
