Urbanism Committee (CCU)
Since the implementation of the Loi sur l’aménagement et l’urbanisme, it is obligatory for municipalities who wish to regulate and apply certain management mechanisms within their territory (PIIA – Architectural Implementation and Integration Plan, minor variances, housing developments, etc.,) to set up a Comité consultatif d’urbanisme.
Its role consists of making recommendations to Council in areas concerned with development and town planning and in particular with respect to applications for construction/renovation permits in sectors subject to the PIIA.
Members of the CCU require such qualities as fairness, common sense and respect, and a marked interest for issues related to esthetics and harmonization. It also requires a good sense of judgment so that excessive rigidity isn’t applied in the application and interpretation of town planning by-laws.
