Val-David en santé (Val-David: a healthy village)
December 2004: Val-David is a member of the Quebec Network of Healthy Towns and Villages.
April 2005: the local QNHTV committee (Val-David en santé) was set up after public consultation aimed at identifying issues that citizens are concerned about, as well as outlining the vision that the local community has for its village over the next decade. Madame Lucille Rocheleau acts as Coordinator.
The major objective of this committee is to create environments favourable to health. Among the possible means for achieving this, it is thought desirable that a round table be set up which can review projects currently underway or under development, identify problems and priorities, and propose actions for improving the quality of life of all citizens. The involvement of citizens, with accountability and responsibility for all, and a feeling of belonging to the community are the major values favoured by the members of this committee.
Programme 0-5-30
In collaboration with local health authorities (Direction de la santé publique des Laurentides) and the local hospital (Centre de santé et des services sociaux des Sommets), Val-David was the first municipality in Quebec to join the Programme 0-5-30.
In brief, 0-5-30 stands for zero tobacco use, 5 servings of fruit and vegetables daily and 30 minutes of daily exercise. You can find out all the details of this program by consulting the documents distributed by the local committee (Val-David en santé).
The official launch was on May 3, 2007, and the program is set to get properly underway once the action plan currently being prepared by the committee is made public.
So keep an eye out! And keep fit!
